How to Care for Orchids in Dubai: A Simple Guide That Works
Orchids are the longest-lasting flowering gift you can give — and Dubai's air-conditioned interiors are surprisingly good for them. Here's how to keep a phalaenopsis blooming for months.
The Five Rules of Orchid Care in Dubai
1. Bright, indirect light. Near a window but never in direct sun — Dubai sun through glass will scorch the leaves. An east-facing window is ideal.
2. Water weekly, then drain fully. Soak the roots for 10–15 minutes, then let all water drain out. Orchid roots that sit in water rot — this is the number one killer.
3. Keep it away from AC vents. Orchids like Dubai's indoor temperatures (20–25°C) but hate direct cold airflow, which dries the blooms and drops the buds.
4. Humidity helps. Indoor Dubai air is dry. A light misting of the aerial roots (not the flowers) once or twice a week, or a pebble tray with water under the pot, keeps it comfortable.
5. Don't repot while blooming. Wait until the flowering cycle ends.
When the Blooms Fall
This isn't the end — it's a rest phase. Cut the spent flower spike just above the second node from the base, keep watering weekly, and many phalaenopsis rebloom within a few months. An orchid gift done right isn't a bouquet; it's a small ongoing companionship.
